A downloadable game for Windows
HOW TO PLAY
- WASD to move around
- Left SHIFT to sprint (until stamina bar runs out)
- Mouse to look around
- E to interact with the glowing syringes, collect five to beat the game
- Watch out for the Redback she gets hungry
The "school" map (it's still empty) is procedurally generated at random and is basically a maze with no exit. Sound is also highly recommended
TROUBLESHOOTING (bugs)
Ignore if you don't run into any issues. Read this for common problems or gameplay mechanics I wasn't able to explain and what to do about them.
The "HOW TO PLAY" button doesn't work
That's why the instructions are above. The project was rushed to meet an informal deadline and the button will work in a coming update.
I can't see anything
There are no lights in the building aside from your torch, which projects in front of you. If you are hugging a wall it will be pitch black - walk/look around in all directions.
The Redback doesn't walk, it glides
There is a bug causing the Redback Spider's procedural animations to desynchronise and just stop working altogether. It's visual for the most part. You can simply pretend that the movement in the menu is in the game I guess

Install instructions
1. Click the Download button above
2. Right click the .Zip file --> Extract All
3. Open the unzipped folder and right click on Redback.exe. Click on Properties (the popup on the right should show up)
4. Tick the checkbox Unblock. After doing this the box will disappear, you only need to do this once.
5. Now the game should run every time, e.g double click the .exe
The game isn't a virus but gets silently blocked because I don't have a licensed digital certificate. I dunno how else to do it without directly sharing with every person
METHOD 2:
The download and installation process above only outlines pre-set versions of the files uploaded, meaning future updates to the game require repeated downloads (if you ever choose to play again). While unlikely, if you are someone who will continue playing, you can receive automatic updates (similar to Steam) by first installing the Itch.io launcher at https://itch.io/app/download. Downloading the game through their launcher also skips the process above, all you have to do is paste the link of this website in the app's search bar and it should do the rest for you - the only drawback is that you have to create an account.
